6 Orsman Road | UK

Few exemplify our April “What a waste” theme better than this incredible zero-waste London building! ♻️Located in Hackney, London, 6 Orsman Road is a true inspiration of how zero-waste design is possible when stakeholders work together. The building consists of flexible private offices, shared workspaces, meeting rooms and a café area that sources healthy food locally. 6 Orsman Road also features private and shared terraces with beautiful London views, along with cycle and shower facilities 🇬🇧The driving force behind the design team’s efforts was zero-waste construction, with the building being able to ultimately be demounted if needed. Every facet of the project was considered to make sure that as much material as possible can be reused or recycled once the building reaches the end of its lifecycle. A true team effort, stakeholders from across the industry came together to share their expertise and create something truly forward-thinking."We worked with Waugh Thistleton Architects because of their experience with timber construction and sustainability more generally, which we wanted to carry through into the interiors of the project," said Storey's former head of product Stewart Whiting. The BREEAM Excellent rating, among many other awards, is certainly justified. With regards to waste, extensive waste sorting facilities are located at the ground floor which allow for maximum reuse and recycling via a range of various schemes. The organic waste from the roof terrace planters are furthermore collected and composted, with the client’s ambition being to become zero to landfill 🌿"We wanted to make a super-low carbon building that is durable, adaptable and demountable," said Waugh Thistleton Architects co-founder Andrew Waugh. "We wanted to treat the building as a recyclable product, we conceived of it being dismantled, reused and recycled in the future," he continued.Shoutout to all the #buildingheroes who made this inspirational project come to life!British LandStoreyAna LourencoKaroline MonatliB&K StucturesStephen StringerSandy BrownAlex BrockClive FussellEngenuitiChris WinnBoultbee BrooksAnthony Thistleton-SmithWood for GoodBREEAM Official📸: Ed Reeve#timberconstruction #zerowaste #circularity #sustainablerealestate #greenbuildings #netzerocarbonPreviousNext
