Google's green giant: The Bay View Campus

After over a decade of planning, Google’s Bay View Campus in Silicon Valley now redefines sustainable design. This project goes beyond the typical office space, blending with nature to create a workspace that's both efficient and eco-friendly. Bay View is Google's first-ever ground-up campus with the mission to operate on carbon-free energy, 24 hours a day, seven days a week by 2030.

Where technology and nature meetPushing the boundaries of sustainable construction with cutting-edge technology, Google’s Bay View is a green powerhouse.

  • Geothermal Power: With the largest geothermal system in North America, the campus heats and cools efficiently, cutting emissions by nearly 50% and reducing water use for cooling by 90%.
  • Solar Energy: Over 50,000 solar panels generate nearly 40% of the campus's energy needs.

Water conservation & certificationBay View is a net-positive water user, implementing systems to collect, treat, and recycle water, reducing overall consumption by 90%. The campus is on track to be the largest Living Building Challenge (LBC) water-positive project certified by the International Living Future Institute (ILFI).True environmental impactThe geothermal and solar systems have significantly cut the campus’s carbon footprint. Clean ventilation promotes a healthier workspace, while 17.3 acres of restored natural habitat support local wildlife and ecosystems.Employee-centric approachWith natural light-filled workspaces, rooftop gardens, and thoughtful design elements, Bay View is designed to create an inspiring, comfortable environment for employees.📸: Iwan Baan
